Please allow me to share my point of view regarding the importance of the olfactory gland (scent receptors = sense of smell) in our human body as far as I have experienced it...
A long time ago, wayyy back in 2003 when I was still studying Chemistry in college here in Malaysia, we learned a thing or two in organic chemistry that one of the top luxurious perfume scent makers for a presumably high-end French brand, he (the Chemist they hired) actually took up the serious study of Chemistry academically for about 8 years long before indulging in scent profiling @ scent making / crafting Base Notes, Middle Notes + Top Notes in order to create an exquisite composition of French perfume to be marketed to the masses in a single bottle.
It has been well-documented in some studies that certain scents, like Sandalwood, enhances focus in the neuro pathways of the brain when we smell it ...hence, Buddhist monks + nuns tend to burn Sandalwood incense before their meditation + prayer ceremonies to improve on focus, for one.
Now, my personal take is that the olfactory gland in humans act as a survival defense mechanism ...for example, smelling foods that have gone bad so that we can avoid eating it ahead of time thereby preventing food poisoning, + also for procreation when subconsciously sniffing your potential romantic partner's secretion of pheromones (...the so-called 'scent of love' which our bodies release when we are attracted to the opposite sex --- animals secrete pheromones as well when attempting to mate!).
I have long felt that the scent faculty in the human body has been horribly underrated as a survival defense tool ...hardly anyone thinks much about improving the way we ...well, learn how to smell!
BUT --- listen, now most humans lucky enough to be bestowed with the 6 basic senses are, by majority, visual creatures...
If I were to ask you: Would you rather your meal (1) smell good OR (2) look good, in order to attract you to eat it... well, most might by habit say that of course it should look presentable in order for me to find it palatable without thinking twice, correct?
However, the truth is that, our meals can literally appear like diarrhoea (when we have the runs, sorry to gross you out), such as in the case of an Indian curry dish [meaning, visually, NOT appealing...] ...BUT if it smells amazing, like it has got turmeric + curry leaves + anise seed + cinnamon powder plus some meats, ...we would definitely still opt to eat the dish ...even though it DOESN'T appear visually appealing.
Inversely, IF you have a very visually appealing meal before you, ...let's say, a plate of Fresh Salad with Chicken Tikka, all displayed in a nice bowl, brimming with various pleasing colours from the leaves on the Salad et al. looking so very appetising visually ...BUT, as you put your nose closer to the bowl of Fresh Salad with Chicken Tikka, you can't help but smell the AWFUL stench of dog poo coming from the dish which is horribly off-putting! <--- In this case, would you still want to attempt to dig in and eat the Salad, though? Highly UNLIKELY!
SO, my point is that, even IF something presented to us looks great as in the bowl of Salad, BUT it smells heavily of doggie poo, the natural human instinct would be turned off by the meal offer.
Meanwhile, IF something DOESN'T look so good, like in the case of Indian Curry which can sometimes appear to look like a bowl of diarrhoea, ...BUT it smells AMAZING and edible and appetising, ...well, then in this instance, most of us would still go ahead and dig in no matter how it looks strange! Simply because our sense of smell has verified that it is indeed SAFE to consume!
So when I said that most people are not aware that subliminally, humans are more affected and more influenced by our sense of smell more so than the sense of sight (visual = how something / someone looks) when attracted to something we wish to consume or someone we wish to be romantic with, I meant that most of the people I've met actually seem to tell me in a slightly deluded perception that their distinguishing factor in selecting a romantic partner is largely based on how [s]he looks visually (whether [s]he is handsome / beautiful physically or not...) rather than how their secreted pheremones ('scent of love') smell to us subliminally... which I actually find to be untrue based on my two meals example above --- Diarrhoea-lookin' Indian Curry that smells delicious vs. Smelly Stinky Fresh Salad with Chicken Tikka that appears presentable but remains inedible.
If I'm not mistaken, animals have a heightened sense of smell as well for survival reasons --- they can smell fear hormonal secretions in their prey ...and they choose their mating partners through intense attraction from their 'scent of love' pheremones secretions released as a call sign for mating.
So technically, when a human being chooses a romantic partner, it is, unaware to the individual, most times --- more than meets the eye, so to speak... Since all 6 senses come into play for the partner selection process, with the olfactory gland being a subliminal scent detector of whether that particular [wo]man is cheating on you with another partner, or how much they are honestly into you, detecting through scent, whether they are smelling of stress hormones from trying to lie to you about anything... Things like that.
This is just my take.
Please feel free to let me know your thoughts!
Final say: yes, scent has a deep effect on the human mental faculty and different scents can trigger different moods and feelings in one --- this is no joke. Scent, to me, has a profound effect on our other senses.
And for that reason, I suggest for more Starseeds to sensitise their sense of smell to be able to consciously distinguish one scent from another --- from the scent of freshly diced cucumbers to Bulgarian roses in springtime. This is to develop improved situational awareness of one's surroundings via a heightened sense of smell, attuning the ability to the psychic faculty 6th sense (third eye) too eventually.
May your nose (= your scent detector extraordinaire!) detect scents that help keep you safe from harm, ...while assisting you to attract your Twin Flame closer to you in this dimension.
With flowery-foresty scents from the Malaysian rainforest to you,
Hullo, there, Barbara!
